The GeoCAS Institute at the University of the Virgin Islands
works with social and physical data that are tied to geographic location for research, policy, and management.
GeoCAS is an active online repository for geographic, and other spatially-explicit data for the Virgin Islands
and the broader Caribbean Region. Our Institute partners with many US federal, regional, and local agencies to serve data and applications.
Most of these data are available to the public through our data portal.
You can access the extent of the data available by accessing our data access portal, or our
WebGIS mapping portal.
We also provide training in the use of geographic information systems (GIS) software, spatial, geostatistical and geocomputational analysis. Faculty and staff at the GeoCAS institute are certified GIS professionals with many years of experience in the field. GeoCAS also provides a wide variety of services including map, poster and other printing services. The GeoCAS faculty and staff also works closely with regional and local communities, governments and other key stakeholders on data acquisition and management projects of environmental and spatial importance.
Faculty and Staff at the Institute engage in active academic and teaching activities, including
graduate and undergraduate education, cutting-edge and cross-disciplinary research and key
community outreach activities.
Our research includes spatial and geospatial analyses, hydrology, attitudes towards the environment, and the state of the environment. The Institute
also has connections to the
Center for Marine and Environmental Studies
and various other departments at the
University of the Virgin Islands .
